Internet freezes whe I close my laptop?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 with windows7. When I close the screen and open it back up the internet (Firefox) Is frozen. Task manager says it's running and when I close Firefox with the (X) it asks me if I want to close Firefox because I have multiple tabs open. I can't do anything in Firefox until I close it and restart it. Any help is much appreciated,
