What should I ask for as a graduation gift?
My father told me that I need to tell him what I want as my graduation present from my parents. Not like a TV or dorm stuff, more of a "congratulations, you made it" present. It can be semi expensive, but nothing over say $400 or maybe even $500. I thought of asking for a nice gold chain bracelet or necklace but then I remembered that I neither Italian or catholic. Would that be a weird gift to ask for? What should I ask for? I have a tough time asking for expensive presents, is rather just have the person buy it. I'd be just as happy. Thanks.

While a laptop would be very useful, it is something that would wear out. I think you should get something that you can keep for your whole life! As you've been told, you can have a good chain or bracelet no matter your nationality or religion!
A nice good chain that you could put pendants on in the future would be a good choice. A 24 inch one would be ideal, in my opinion! Maybe a pendant with your birthstone in it, or any other stone that you expecially love would be a good choice to go with the chain.

I think a new laptop is the most appropriate. I assume you will be going to college and a laptop would be an essential. You can find a decent one within $400. But if you want a nicer one you could offer to chip in if you got the savings. If not ask for a bike (also useful in college). I think a gold chain is nice but it doesn't offer much function.

I think Mr T and most of the baseball players would think that was one weird statement

Why do you think god chains are only for Italians of Catholics? Not true.
Jewelry would be very nice. A ring would be good.

Ask him to help you open up a savings account. Be sure to add to it each month. Someday you will need the money to buy a house or car.
