Since god gave us free will, if you take it from someone are you playing god?

Update:

I understand free will to not only being able to make decisions freely but to implement those decisions as well. If you kidnap someone you are taking away their free will, If someone stops you from visiting your spouse in the hospital they are taking away your free will. God kicked us out of the garden of eden because we ate an apple, not because we thought about it. We have our free will taken from us all the time but it is something given to us by god so the people taking it away could be considered to be interferring with the will of god.

No such thing as Free Will.

No such thing as a god.

    “Free Will is not.

I do NOT have the Free Will to be thirty once again or even six foot two and 180 pounds.

I do NOT have the Free Will to have been born as the Sun King in 1638 or to have invented the telephone or to have had Natalie Wood even just once.

Free Will is a furphy dreamed up by godsters who lacked the intellect to discern the fact that there are very few things in life that we can actually choose.

We can't choose our parents, intellectual quotient, status in society, our teachers.

Most of the things we 'can' choose are little more refined than Pavlov's dogs’ responses to his bells.

AND I'll bet the starving-dying little black kid in Darfur KNOWS Free Will is a crock.”

W C Easttom: God says, do what you wish, but make the wrong choice and you will

be tortured for eternity in hell.

That sir, is not free will.

It would be akin to a man telling his girlfriend, do what you wish, but if you choose to

leave me, I will track you down and blow your brains out.

When a man says this we call him a psychopath and cry out for his gaoling or death.

When god says the same we call him 'loving' and build churches in his honour.

First of all, you are not playing God; you are just using the free will that He gave you (even if you are using it for a bad purpose).

Second of all, you can never take away someone's free will completely. They can still have free will to think whatever they want to think/believe.

    Yes.

The question suggests that you don't actually know what the term "free will" means. Typically, the only way for you to take someone's free will away is to kill them or knock them unconscious (which only does the job temporarily). Other methods involve "brain washing".

    P.S. You wrote

I understand free will to not only being able to make decisions freely but to implement those decisions as well

Then you misunderstand (or misuse) the term "free will". It has a standard English definition - and "able to implement those decisions" is definitely not included in the concept "free will".

In order to have the ability to implement any decision we make, logically we would have to be omnipotent - which, obviously, we are not! (And just as obviously, "free will" does not include the meaning "omnipotent"!)
