My vet recommended Benadryl for our dog, and she said it was safe. There are humans who take allergy medications their whole lives too, just as a frame of reference. Benadryl is an anti-histamine, so it works by blocking histamine (a chemical that is produced in response to foreign irritants like allergens) so that the dog won't develop such a strong inflammatory response in his immune system when he exposed to allergens.

Yes, but .it's generally not effective. If your dog is suffering from allergies, then your vet most likely has something much better, plus may be able to help you determine what your dog is allergic to, so you can avoid it in the first place.
Benedryl basically works by sedating the dog just a little bit. It does not cure anything that is causing the itching
A really good vet could be of great help.

This would be a very good question for the Vet who told you to use Benadryl at all, and for what it's purpose is/was. Call your Vet and ask.

I would say NO it is not.... i think it could be addictive too.. please stop NO you probally have to slowly taper off of it .. to avoid side effects... best thing to do is check with the vet. benadryl makes me sleepy.. and not ment to be taken for long periods of time scary
