A Poem About The Price Tag Of Extremes? What Do You Think?

(This is a work in progress, so feel free to make suggestions, trash it or encourage it’s completion.)

Pondering The Outer Values

How about the conceptualization

of intra psychic structures, just for fun?

Balderdash, say you? Tennis, anyone?

Tennyson, then? Not keen on Lord Alfred?

Can’t say I blame you. His being long dead

explains to the mass why he’s under-read.

Stephen Hawking taps his thoughts to the beat

of Coleman Hawkins, as their quarks collide

with octaves, music and math glorified,

compelling the less inclined to retreat.

While starlets and scalawags share a bed

near genius rarely keeps the family fed.

Though there is seldom true correlation

between pure art and gross capital gain,

if neither evil, both provide rewards

dictated by what the spirit will afford.

Sadly, fair profit will not placate greed

that poisons itself with vile karmic seeds,

or skew the perception that the profound

can’t flourish if rooted in common ground.

So how much is bartered to ensure

inspired vision or stock options galore?

Update:

Synopsis, less than 5% of the general populace reads poetry (excluding that which is assigned as class work or are lyrics from songs) and after leaving school the % drops even lower. So we can assume the masses would not be reading anything by Tennyson, Blake, Coleridge, etc.

    0. This deserves more than a nominal scanning.

Would you keep it posted until ,my mind is fresher, please?

There is absolutely no justice in poetry, history,

or the stock - market and

this is my final comment upon the topics as

I am of common stuff and only learned,

`The Traveller` at school... all other poets being read

during school assembly from books hidden and then

    extracted from beneath my vest,

    in secret

    rather than recite,

`Our Father was shot in Heaven` which made less sense to me than

    O`Shaughnassy and Khayyam and Shakeybones.

    *typo, dear sir - `scallywags`*

*retreats, in a huff, realizing that religions probably make more net profit than I can

despite being able to reel off the Rubaiyaat*

    "His being long dead

explains to the mass why he’s under-read."

Tennyson's Lady of Shalott consistently places second in the vast majority of polls for the nation's favourite poem.

If you want people to take your poetry seriously, you can't just leave howlers like this lying around in it.
