Question about visual novels?
All right, so I love reading visual novels, but the amount of untranslated works is way too high. So, I was wondering, since I plan to learn Japanese at some point anyway, what type of characters does Visual Novels use? Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji? If it's Kanji, I might as well just gonna give up. (100,000 characters?! What the hell is wrong with you, China?!)
Really? Is it that hard to simply tell me what kind of characters they use? And why should I go into romanji? It has a ridiculous amount of flaws as a writing system. A single word in Romanji can mean several things if it's alone, whereas Hiragana or Katakana has a character for each meaning. Besides, learning Romanji is pointless, since no visual novels are natively written in Romanji. If I'm going to read translated Visual Novels, then I might as well read the English ones. There's bound to be more of those than Romanji.

There are no Romaji visual novels anyway, that doesn't exist.
Nor, for that matter, are there any VNs written in solely hiragana, katakana, or kanji. ALL games will use a mix of all three. That's how the written language works. Some words are kanji-only, many words mix kanji and hiragana, and katakana show up for foreign loan-words and sound effects.
I've seen estimates that you can get your reading level up high enough to start working through VNs in about two years of dedicated study.

Hey, they didn't have a choice about the people that invented their system of writing, it was so long ago.
You might be better off looking for VN's that have been transliterated into romaji (I don't know if there actually are any) and that way you can gain familiarity with the language.
