How long will this mono last?

Last week on Monday I started getting the symptoms of mono. They weren't too severe, but blood tests confirmed that I had it. On Sunday I started feeling a whole lot better, but I still throw up from time to time (usually bile)--maybe once or twice a day-- and I still can only eat very little. The only thing I do during the day (starting this week) is go to drivers ed for 3 hours. I rest for the remainder of the day. I have three problems 1) I miss my girlfriend terribly and feel bad hanging out with her while I'm sick so I try to avoid it. (She's going to college soon though, so I feel like in wasting our time) 2) I'm starving. And 3) I'm leaving for vacation with all my friends 2 weeks from today. Do you think I'll be better by then!? Help!?

You are considered contagious for 4 weeks after the symptoms started. However, mono is not generally airborne, since you don't cough or sneeze. Wash your hands and don't kiss or share food or drinks, and there should be no problem.

Whether you will be able to go on vacation in 3 weeks I can't say, because some people bounce back quickly, while others are dragging on for months or years with fatigue. The fact that you are able to do 3 hours of driver's education already is encouraging. If you feel okay, even if tired, you can go, just be extra careful about sharing food and drinks and such until the 4 weeks are up.

Anybody who has had mono already is immune to it. You don't have to worry about their catching it. And soon you will be immune also.

Typically MONO takes over a month to clear. It is also very contagious and cause serious illness. Don't push it even if you feel well. Don't be too friendly with the girl friend she can become infected too.
