Entomologists: Identify a Butterfly/Moth Species?

I have a pair of earrings which have butterfly wings made into cabochons. I'd like for someone to help me identify the butterfly or moth species, but no one has had any luck. Try to take a crack at it?

Here is a photo:

The wing is a 3/4" circle. There is no color shift. They are mainly a deep grey, with the markings a warm light grey. I have no idea where the butterfly was from, and have no way of getting this information. Feel free to take a guess, anything is helpful. Thanks!

Update:

I don't know anything about the wing origins unfortunately. The best I can tell you is that the jewelry itself was made in California. I have no idea if they imported or anything though, and I have no way to contact them and ask :(
