What british football teams have a catholic-irish background?
I'm a Celtic fan and Celtic have a Catholic-Irish background, whereas Rangers have a Protestant background. I know religion doesn't matter now and sectarianism has no place in football so I don't need a lecture, I was just wondering what other teams have a Catholic background? (like Liverpool)
Also, if you know, who are these teams rivals?
It matters because I studied history and the irish immigration and was curious about the effects it had on football

United and Liverpool.
I would say it was a background such more circumstances, In these cases the Irish moved there then the club came about.

Man United were formed to appeal to the Irish Catholic communities of Manchester, hence why they lobbied to the Manchester City Council to ask if they could use the term "Manchester" so as to create a connection.
The MCC agreed so long as they paid taxes to the Manchester Council. United delayed payment before moving out of the border of Manchester completely to nearby Trafford in 1910 to avoid paying the taxes, (Man Utd pay their taxes to Trafford Council, not Manchester.) which were £30,000 or in 2013 money, around £3,125,000, yet still kept the "Manchester" title in their name.
But initially it was to appeal to the Irish Catholic communities of Manchester who emigrated here in vast numbers.
