Whats this story called?

When i was in 9th grade i read a story about an older woman who killed her husband (i think) because something about he killed her bird...? And they found evidence of premeditated murder by how she knitted a quilt and two female investigators kept fixing things that were wrong in the house (basically tampering with evidence). The one investigator said that women are used to worrying about something. I cannot for the life of me figure out what the word was but i know it was the story title. I think it began with a T but im not sute
