What other method, other than GDP, can a country gauge its economic growth?

I was watching some Youtube videos of Dr. Nate Hagens and he mentioned that we have to base our economic growth on something other than GDP. So just out of curiosity, what other forms of economic growth can we use if not GDP?

Governments are increasingly looking to well being to gauge economic growth. Bhutan now indexes happiness and here in the UK the Office for National Statistics is starting to compile data on well being. Check out this link http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/user-guidan... for the ONS's analysis.
