You should also note that peyote is drunk, as a very dilute tea, and the purpose of the ceremony is NOT to get high, any more than catholics use mass as an excuse to get drunk. In other words, it is used spiritually, not recreationally.

And the NAC (native American church- which is the name of the peyote church) is NOT free of persecution. Wasn't even legalized until 1978, and even today, most tribes are against it. It is tolerated, because legally it has to be, but it isn't my tribe's traditional way.

The regulations and hoops that the NAC has to jump through are also VERY difficult. There are strict laws regarding the cultivation and possession of peyote.
