Looking for RICE KASHA?
I lived in Russia for several years as a child and learned to love their "Рисовая каша" or "Rice porridge" or "Rice kasha." I have been to several "Russian" or "European" stores since moving back to America but can't seem to find even instant porridge of a rice origination. If ANYBODY knows a good from-scratch recipe, or where to find some mix or something.... PLEASE, let me know!!

In Russia, Kasha is any hot cereal, such as oatmeal or cream of wheat or even kasha, as buckwheat is known in America. Russian is any cereal grain made with milk instead of water. Just follow the directions on regular cream of wheat or old fashioned oats or Kasha and use milk instead of water. Add a good pat of butter and a bit of sugar before eating it.
I believe rice kasha refers to a sort rice pudding that was often given to Russian children when they weren't feeling well. You can try cooking white rice using about 1 1/2 times milk instead of the water called for in the recipe. You want it creamy and little loose. Garnish the finished dish with raisins and mix in some sugar and butter.

"can't seem to find even instant porridge of a rice origination." - you need regular rice surprisingly. Plus milk, some butter and sugar if you want to make it sweet.
Cook rice. Boil milk. Mix together and boil again unless rice starts to fall apart (it will be very overcooked). Add little bit of butter and sugar. Mix everything. Try if you like the taste and add more sugar if you want. Finished.
It will not be among instant products anywhere just because it takes long time for rice to be over-cooked.

you do realize that you make rice kasha out of rice, milk, butter and a bit of sugar, you may also add dry fruit or even fresh fruit depending on your taste. Let me know if you need this translated for you...I am assuming you can read Russian...Make sure you do not use instant or parboiled rice...just plain white rice should suffice.
