Paul in the New Testament explicitly says that men were made in God's image and women weren't: "For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (1 Corinthians 11:7-9).

The books of the Bible are the product of a patriarchal society, in which men were considered godlike and women were blamed for bringing death, woes and toil into the world.

"Ge. 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the

birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth,[Hebrew; Syriac all the wild animals] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

"Ge. 2:7 the LORD God formed the man [The Hebrew for man(adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for

ground (adamah); it is also the name Adam (see Gen. 2:20).]from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the

breath of life, and the man became a living being."

Ge. 2:18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Ge. 2:22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [Or part] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

1 Corinthians 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, for as much as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.

It depends on which god you're referring to. There are many female gods -- Hera, Aphrodite, Hestia, Artemis, and of course the earth mother, just to name a few.

In the Bible, the pronoun "he" (never "she") is always used to refer to god. He is also referred to with masculine nouns such as "father" (never "mother").

Many times, people have asked whether God is male or female. However, the Bible is clear that God is Spirit and is neither male nor female. Jesus Himself said in John 4:24, "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

When we look at how God has communicated through Scripture, we discover that the pronouns used are consistently male. The original languages of the Bible (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) refer to God as "He" rather than "She." Further, God is called "Father" approximately 170 times in Scripture. Based on the Bible's practice, Christians have appropriately used male pronouns to refer to God.

However, we also find passages in Scripture that reveal God's sensitivities from a female perspective. For example, in Matthew 23:37, Jesus declared, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!" (see also Luke 13:34). The simile evokes the actions of a hen, clearly a motherly illustration, yet it was expressed by Jesus, the male Son of God.

God can perfectly identify with the needs and emotions of all people, male and female. This is because of what Genesis 1:27 says: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Both male and female have been made in God's image; He understands both.

The question of whether God is male or female often arises from a concern over whether Christianity equally values both men and women. The Bible is clear that God does value both equally. Paul wrote in Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." God loves us all perfectly. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

God is Spirit, not male or female. The Bible clearly refers to God as male in its original languages, and Jesus referred to God as Father. Christians follow the biblical pattern. Doing so affirms what God has said and His role as our heavenly Father.

He refers to having male parts which is useless if there was no she and same goes if god is female. If God were male and there was no she God, it would be sad and ironic how evolution worked on god esp with "vestigial organs"

As the Absolute, God is all . When God functions as a recognizable personality He is considered as a Father . At this level of our Spiritual evolution, being of a two sexed origin, we see Him as male, the Son as having female qualities and the Holy Spirit as a function of both. There is much more to it than that . [SEEK] and you will find.

God transcends gender. he is refered to as he because we are unable to conceive of the fact that he is not a male in the traditional sense, but neither is he a female or an it.

"he" is the best we can do with our finite minds and limited language and understanding.
