How much weight can a drywall hold not using the studs?
I want to hang something that weighs around 25lbs. I bought some hooks that have these metal fastener anchors that screw on. I'm not using the studs. Can the wall handle 25lbs?

That depends on the size and type of anchors.
Here's the sort I'd use: http://homerepair.about.com/od/interiorhomerepair/...
And it also depends on HOW you're mounting it to the wall. If it's just hanging like a picture, absolutely this fastener can do the job. But if you're attaching something like a shelf, you should use at least four. Two above and two below, just like the dots on a pair of dice, the #4. That way the two upper carry the load and the two below stabilize the shelf. And the shelf needs to be a bracketed shelf, not just a flat board.
Best of luck with your project.
