Alternative solutions for PCOS? (underweight)?
Hi!
I'm 24 years old, and my gynecologist recently told me she thinks I have PCOS - although my periods are regular, they are very heavy (7 days +) and painful, and I display most of the other symptoms... She wanted me to try to take birth control pills, but the idea of manually controlling hormone levels in my body (with confirmed carcinogens, no less) - as well as the stomach and mood side effects associated with BC pills (I have lots of gastro problems - possibly IBS) - scared me away from taking them.
Surely there are other ways of controlling PCOS or hormonal imbalances without taking birth control pills? I've heard of the "Low GI" diet, but most people use this diet to lose weight, and I'm already severely underweight due to the GI problems! The only way I can even maintain my weight (not gain weight, just keep from losing weight) is to eat all the carbs and calories I can get my hands on - I try to avoid eating too much processed foods and bleached wheat products, and I've tried adding more green vegetables to my diet, but I just lose weight that way...
So... long story short... I might have PCOS, but I'm underweight and don't want to take birth control pills or stick to a low-calorie diet, because those would only make my GI problems worse.
Anybody have any suggestions as to other ways PCOS can be controlled? Has anyone had experience with this? Thank you in advance...

Hi,
Im no doctor but I have PCOS to and im 23
I was trying to conceive since i was 19 and had no luck
I had no insurance so i decided to try and google natural ways to help with my PCOS. Im not trying to advertise you anything im just recommeding something i had good experince with. Well anyways i stumbled along a herb called Vitex aka Chastetree berry and so many people said it helped their PCOS, you should google it. I went to a natural store (Elliot's Natural Foods store) in my area and the bottle of Vitex is only $7. Its a slow acting herb but i noticed a major difference in just one month. The second month i got pregnant =) And 3 months ago I just had my second baby while on vitex (i got pregnant the month started ttc). I'm still taking vitex and its really helping with my pain and i have regular periods since im on it.
Best of Luck!

aww that sucks i went through the same thing with my son when he was younger. i would let her get some air on her bum. let her play without a diaper and put a towel over her so she doesnt get cold. also, when he first had the thrush rash i wasn't using wipes i was just taking him to the bathroom and using a wet washcloth and baby soap to clean him up. i did that for 4 or 5 days every diaper change (very time consuming but worth it). after it looked a little bit better i loaded desitin or balmex on it and never completely wiped it off. if he was just wet i would just pat the urine off and then put more desitin on (obviously completely wiped if he pooped). it cleared up in less than a week. a thrush diaper rash is worse than a regular one! Last thing lol get really wet wipes! I was using huggies wipes and they were dry so the rash got worse because i rubbed kinda hard on his bum to get the desitin off. :( hurt him but i was a first time mom and was a nervous wreck. Boudreaux's Butt Paste is really good for diaper rashes too! :) Good luck, sorry this is so long lol
