what is the best thing to major in for highway patrol?
I just found out that there isn't really an educational requirement for it. i just need a degree and that'll put me above most other applicants. I'm not sure what to major in though, at first I thought I had to major in administration of justice. With this new found knowledge I'm considering majoring in business and psychology, and possibly a minor in admin. of justice or english because of all the writing i will be doing. So my question is, what majors (and minors) would be most appealing to a highway patrol employer? Thank you in advance!
Ultra i think you are very confused. First of all they do not hold people "hostage" they detain people. However, they only do that if they suspect something of you, which if you've been pulled over you were obviously doing something wrong so you deserve to be suspected of something. If its only a tail light thing and you are respectful they will tell you to fix it and you can be on your way. I agree that unfortunately some police officers are as you describe but not all. You are generalizing police officers to all be this way which is wrong and inconsiderate of you. Also, this question is looking for an answer that will very likely decide what I will spend thousands of dollars on for me to work towards a career that will finance the rest of my life. This is not a page for you to complain on. So take your one-sided childish views where somebody might actually care.

You're right. There is no educational requirement to drive around harassing people over burnt out light bulbs and turn signal violations. State troopers are the most worthless form of "law enforcement" there is. They don't investigate any crimes, all they do is pull people over for the most trivial reasons and then try to get you to let them search you car for drugs. And if you don't let them search then they threaten you with bringing in a dog and holding you hostage until it gets there.

You have to stop thinking that you submit a resume to become a cop with any major department.
They do not care, nothing you can take in college makes you more appealing. Plenty of specific classes can make you a better candidate in that the right classes can make you a better test taker to get you in and get great scores on promotion tests.
Psych,or any science, will help you to develop the needed critical thinking skills.
The only specific classes that help yu be a better trooper would likely be some advanced math classes. You need good math skills to reconstruct major accidents, even with the new computer systems.

The answer above mine is a good one. Take classes that will help you on the competitive application exam. Reading comprehension, logic and math are on it. Being able to solve the math problems to reconstruct a car crash is something you will be doing each day. Also you want to be able to take classes in writing as you will spend a great deal of your time writing reports.
Good luck
