This is from The Buddha...?

Believe nothing merely because you have been told it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings -- that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.

Just one point from this...take what works and leave the rest seems to be possible AND STILL have respect for a teacher....

Most people, at one time or another, wear some form of footwear. Some choose sandals, sneakers, boots, slippers, moccasins, etc. which may or may not be different from the footwear a parent or a teacher might wear even though they have taught you to wear footwear....

Shoes or footwear also come in varying sizes, colors, etc. The Philosophy of footwear is to protect ones feet....

Martial arts, like shoes or footwear, has never been and never will be a "one size fits all" situation. Respecting someone does not and never has meant believing that they are infallible. No one is right about all things at all times and in all circumstance and situations.

    Be well and be wise.

First Buddha does not ask people to worship him.

Now, lets say you are a student of science in school and your teacher, according to your syllabus, displays some experiments which you learn & repeat . The teacher knows much more than what he has shown to you . He wont show you more because rest is not part of your syllabus at your level. But the teacher sometimes may talk about many wonderful results from chemistry , say creating perfumes or creating explosives. You listen and you are free to believe him or not at all because you have not experienced this yourself.

Similarly Buddha knew much more than what he taught because that was necessary for his pupils liberation.

I do not agree with your point. Taking what works and leaving the rest is reckless and arrogant if one has not put in the requisite time to understand what works or not. Too many people don't like something, or find it difficult to do, and decide it's not for them and so they discard it. Such people have limited techniques and skills.

And this has nothing to do with the admonition to not accept something blindly without due diligence. When someone tells you something, your responsibility is to study it and find out why it works. If you can't figure that out, that is what your instructor is there for. If s/he can't tell you, then s/he does not belong in the role of instruction.

If you have a good instructor, then it is not likely you will come to the conclusion that something doesn't work.

That is not AT ALL what is being said in the above statement.

It is saying that someone will sell you BS as real and it is up to you to research and find out if what you are being told is real or BS.
