Will Atlantis be able to be as good as Merlin?

I know around September, BBC have a slot for legend type of TV shows, e.g Merlin and robin hood. Both Merlin and Robin Hood have been really good and a while ago the TV show to replace Merlin was going to be Atlantis but i was wondering do you think its worth giving in it a try and what is it about.

(I know no ones watched it as its not out yet, i just want other people's opinions and anything you know about it)

Thank You

There is a basic difference between "Merlin" and "Atlantis": The background story in case of "Merlin" is relatively rich and clear. Legends about Merlin are known in abundance. Not so with Atlantis: There, we only have the story of Plato, and this story is indeed no complete story but stops abruptly before the real story begins. Most probably the rest is not lost but was never written by Plato (this is in doubt).

So it is difficult to fill the big gap of this background story! The script writers have to invent many things, whereas in case of the "Merlin" legends they could rely on rich material already given.

It depends on the phantasy and on the rationality, whether "Atlantis" will be a master piece - or just trash. As far as I can see, it tends to trash: They bring together classical Greek mythology with Plato's story of Atlantis and mix it in an unhistorical way. IMHO I do not like this.

But before I watched the series I will not judge.
