I accidentally deleted a file from my passport?

I had accessed the file, saved it, and closed my computer. And when I opened my computer a couple hours later, plugged in my external hard drive passport, my dog might have pressed the Delete button. but I don't see how even by pressing the delete button it just decided to delete that one document. Is there anything I can do to get the file back? it's important. help please.
