How to not renew my lease?
I pay first and last month rent when i first move in. it ends next month on aug 23rd but my mother is out of state ill right now. i tried going in initialing some papers and they said i couldn't do it since im not lease holder just occupant. And i also need a written letter from my mom which i got from her when i visit her yesterday. i was wondering if that is enough. just her paper saying i dont want to renew the lease. cause there is no way she can come here to initial some silly papers.

You don't have to initial papers to cancel a lease, just get a letter to them, signed by your mother, saying she is not renewing the lease. If they say they want her to sign papers, just tell them to give them to you and you'll run them down to her, but they are not required to cancel a lease.
One problem, however, is tht since its less than 30 days from Aug 23rd, are you giving them enough notice. In some states you are, but in most states at least 30 days (sometimes even more) notice is required.

If you have a term lease, you do not have to renew or even give the landlord notice. Notice is given on a term by either a tenant or landlord out of courtesy it's not required by law. The only kind of tenancy where notice has to be given in writing is a month to month tenancy. If you do not sign a new term at the end of tenancy but you remain a tenant then the term reverts to a month to month or periodic tenancy. Hope this helps?

Apparently the lease is. In your mother's
name. Depending on how it is structured when the original term ends it either automatically renews or converts to month to month probably at a higher monthly rental rate. Since you and mom want to move hope it converts and doesn't renew. Read it and have your mom write and sigb the appropriate 30 or sixty day intent to move notice.

There is no commitment to renew a lease. The lease is specific to the terms contained therein, and I've never heard of a lease that said you have to sign another lease. If no one signs it, it is no longer in force, and you have no commitments.
But you should tell them you're moving in a month as a courtesy.
