maybe this venue is not for use full replies but rather a venue for people to collect points in a game

USAirways doesn't have a travel adivsory for NYC. Flights can be cancelled due to mechanical issues or weather at the origin or destination or at stops along the way. Can't say that I have heard about cancellations due to congestion, but they can't cancel all flights (there would be no congestion with no flights). That is to say that the cancellation was flight specific and you gave no info for a particular flight or where it is coming from.
You could take a look at the airlines website and check the flight status.

What did USAIR tell you when they said the flight will be canceled ? What reason did they give you ?
Why would we know more than the airline ?
