Fast Food Workers Strike for double pay!?

Workers nation wide are striking today for double the pay. From $7.25 an hour to $15 an hour...

Do you guys think flipping burgers justifies this rate, or should these companies just fire everyone striking and hire new employees?

All I know is that a lot of people do work fast food jobs full time and they are uneducated, poor, and parents. So what else are they supposed to do for a living? We end up subsidizing places like McDonalds anyways because we pay their workers welfare if they don't earn a living wage. But I think very little will change as a result of the strike. I have applied to fast food joints multiple times for part time work as I attend school, but I never even get interviews. They generally have a lot of applicants for each position.

These employees may be fired either way. For $15 an hour, these restaurants would hire more intelligent and better qualified people.

Unless you're in a union, striking is called "failure to report for work" and you can be fired instantly. Anyone who wants to actually make a difference on this issue should use more persuasive tactics than organizing mass firings of ignorant workers who thought they were somehow protected.

Insane. They will run with skeleton staffs and fire the strikers.

Do YOU want to double the cost of your fast food burger? And pay 30% more for everything else as this new money chases goods?

    Simple economics.

You are dumber than a box of rocks. Besides the hamburgers getting flipped, the bathroom has to be cleaned and somebody has to carry out the trash. If a White Castle hamburger costs 68 cents today and we double their pay tomorrow the price would be $1.56 for a hamburger. I say raise the minimum wage to fifteen bucks an hour for an almost affordable wage to raise a family.

protests/walk-outs are only planned in 7 cities. $15 an hour is way out of line, they'll all be fired. there's plenty of unemployed people who would jump at the chance to have any job even at $7.25 an hour, they have hundreds of applications.

If you are not in a union, you don't strike. You just don't go to work. Which you get fired for. There are thousands of people without jobs who will gladly take all the new openings.

The business would have to raise costs. This would cause less people to eat there. The business would have to fire some employees

These people are handling your food. They're controlling what goes into your body.

15 is a bit high, but I do think they deserve more then their getting. It's terrible work.

    But they won't get anything.
