Is it too soon to remove formula from my sons diet?
He will be one in a little less than 3weeks. He has 2oz of vitamin d milk with lunch and dinner. And all of his other "bottles" (he is off the bottle only uses sippy cup) are half formula and half vitamin d milk he has been on this for 2 weeks and doing just fine. Im slowly upping the milk. He actually seems to enjoy the milk more than his formula. He eats 3 meals a day. Just wondering if its okay to be weaning him off of the formula already? He's very healthy also.
Yes... I live in Iowa and all doctors here say formula for the first year ...

I quit giving my daughter formula around 8-9 months because she didn't seem to tolerate any dairy based formulas, rice formula isn't complete enough nutrition wise and soy is bad for everyone. We switched her to unsweetened hemp milk and she was fine. She is almost 2 and has been drinking cows milk since shortly after her first birthday. I don't know if it was just the formula that bothered her but we cut out dairy for a bit because of tummy issues and now she seems fine with it. Do what feels right to you!

The recommendation is formula until 12 months, but nothing magical is going to happen over-night on his birthday. If he is tolerating it now and eating 3 meals of solids then it would be ok to stop offering formula. Just remember that he should be drinking no more then about 16 oz of milk a day and it should be at meal times, not as a "bottle" like when he was an infant.

Good job on sippy cups, my son started at 7 months. Well your sons very close to start fresh whole milk. Its not too soon. Some doctors/peditricians suggest you start giving 1-2 bottles a day from ages 10 months, so they can adjust. As long as you have a healthy happy baby, their isn't anything to worry about. Good job mama!

He could have been off formula months ago. Did your doctor tell you to keep using it this long?
