What can cause a urine like smell...(other than urine of course)?

Is it possible that a 100 year old wood frame house just smells faintly of urine?

It has been scrubbed over more times than I can count. The rodent guy came with a pee light....nothing.

WHAT IS THIS SMELL?

Update:

uuhhh..... you mean like from fuming wood?

I doubt that.

Update 2:

((((((Uncle Wayne)))))) NOooooooo not that! say it ain't so!

I'll grab the flashlight and have a look. This stinks.

Bugs are eating my house down...well, the part that's not rotting around me anyhow :(

Update 3:

No worries (((((Occulty)))) A lady never asks ;)

Update 4:

Yeah, ammonia smells like that, but so does wood alcohol before it is filtered. Some wood creates a form of ammonia just before it rots. Check for wood ants or termites which can also leave that smell in the attics of houses. Some pulp woods are called stink wood or piss wood. And of course some people call those wood ants = piss ants. -- sorry for my language.

My advice: Go in the attic and check for wood ants or partially rotted wood.

(((Ren))) yes, some carpet padding and some insulation is made with fish oil as a binding agent. Rancid fish oil can smell like urine.

Donna, Make sure you don't have any stink bugs hiding in or near your house:

I got a best answer two days ago for the same question. You answered your own question I think. Concentrated urine can have a strong smell, do drink 64 oz. of water a day. What you eat or drink has the biggest influence on urine odor. Vary the juice and see if that helps. Omit the capri sun for a couple of days. I bet you'll find what's causing it.

I once burnt some mysterious stinky urine smelling wood on our fire I think it was hard as nails it was used as rollers in an old factory VERY VERY hard it was.

HEY! That genius Occulty is onto something there about Fertilizer.........................

And just maybe..... lots of woman pissedup this particular tree. Plants like woman's urine in small doses though so it probably came from a big ole tree, and this reminds me I have a tree that needs attention before I smoke it.

Wayne that was VERY interesting too but the wood I was burning was in no way rotten on appearance and I burn lots of different woods that don't smell funny rotten/partially rotten or otherwise. Saying that I have seen yellow ash :)

Entendre unintended this question is good stuff too.

I am rambling now :D best go kids.........................(((Dr Frog)))

Source(s): I am usually good at knowing what woods are but the one I know that smelt funny was exotic but whizzy whiffs LOL.

Most likely ammonia as some of the answers say. Its possible that a part of the home closer to a vent/window or within your ventilation system has been soaked in ammonia at some point of time. It could also be emanating from the attic.

The odor is coming from your pants. You wet them and let it dry. Use the toilet when you have to go and wash your pants when you wet them and the odor will go away.

I agree with Unc, and being Texas, piss ants.

Makes sense they'd become more active after the rain you said you finally got.

Anhydrous ammonia, a fertilizer often used in the making of methamphetamine.

Don't ask me how I know...
