Can I transfer gold coins through airport security?

Hello there. So, I'm planning to move to U.S next year, and I have a little question about it. So, my grandma, left me these gold coins, theyre old and stuff, and I think for those kind of things you need like a document. I dont have that. So would I be able to safely go through airport security without them spotting them? Like on the scan thingy, cause I dont want to get in any kind of trouble and I'm kinda afraid to put them into the baggage, cause it may get lost or something. So would I be able to safely transfer them? I will be flying Riga-Stockholm-Chicago if that helps.

You cannot prevent them from being seen. The whole point of using x-rays is that they see <<everything>>. If you put them in a pocket and go through a metal detector, then the alarm will sound. If you go through a body image scanner, then they will show up as an anomaly and you will be told to empty your pockets.

I don't think there is any prohibition on gold per se. You might want to do some google searches for topics like: "gold coin import US", or "importing gold into US" or related topics.

The only issues would be the value of the coins and whether or not they are cultural artifacts that can't be exported (like taking a mummy out of Egypt). If they are a few commemorative coins then probably not a problem.
