I don't know.. I knew with each one of my pregnancies what I was having, before the ultrasounds. Maternal instincts or something...dunno. There are all those wives tales that some women go by. An ultrasound is usually the only way to tell.

She can't.. old 'wives tales' are just that.. tales. Pregnancy symptoms are different for each women and each pregnancy. The same woman can have terrible nausea with the first child, and not with the second, and they both be the same gender. Symptoms are no way to tell, only the ultrasound can tell.
