Holiday in America for 18 year olds?
I finish my a-levels next year and traditionally me and my friends are thinking of going on holiday for a week or two. Most British 18 year olds go to party destinations in Europe like Malia, Tenerife, Ibiza etc but I would like to do something different. I'm not much of a party girl and I don't fancy seeing everyone get wrecked on holiday (My brother came back from his "lads" holiday with bruises everywhere).
I'd much rather spend a bit more money and spend a week in Nashville, Tennessee as I've always wanted to visit and I don't think I'll get a chance to go any time soon. Obviously the drinking age in the States is 21 so I won't be able to drink while I'm there which I don't mind as I'm not much of a drinker anyway. I just want to do touristy things and go to some concerts really and get the country music experience.
Due to the price, I doubt many of my friends will want to come, but a couple of my best friends are up for it.
I just want to know if we will be able to stay in a hotel and get to places okay. We'll be 18 by then so I don't see a problem.
Any advice? Is this possible?
Thanks,
Louise

most hotels require you to be 21 especially in tourist areas
you must be 25 to rent a car in the US as well

There are some hotels that will allow 18+ to check in. You will need a credit card in your name. NOT a debit card or band card.
I would contact the hotel manager at each hotel direct for confirmation that you will be allowed to check in. Do not go by what the web sites says.
You could get by in Nashville without a car.

Most US hotels in major tourist areas have a minimum age of 21 to check in. You also would not be allowed to rent a car.
I can think of a lot of more exciting places in the US for you to spend a week that have great public transportation and lots to do within walking distance. Have you considered New York City of Washington DC? You would probably be able to get an air/hotel package that would get around the minimum age requirements.
You definitely need to check with a local travel agent about minimum age requirements. While I live in Middle TN and there is a lot to do here for a week, you really need a car to see it.
