Canon EOS 7d and battery grip.?
A long shot but someone might just know the answer!
I bought a Canon BG-E7 battery grip for my 7D about a year ago and at first it worked fine.
But now, every time I try to use it, I get
"Error Message 20; unable to take a photograph. Turn the camera off and then on"
The camera works fine, if I turn the battery grip off, or remove it.
I wrote to Canon but received just their standard reply telling me to take it to a repair centre. It's not too important that I really need the battery grip but having paid for it, I don't want to just leave it idle!
Any clues, anyone?

Service is my speciality, if your grip hasn't been dropped and it doesn't make a 'rattling' sound like something is loose or broken inside...I would clean every contact point even the battery contact points, inspecting them for damage or wear, I would do this a couple of times just so I know I haven't missed anything...take your time..try mounting the grip again and see if that helps (you've probably done all this already, but, just in case)...if the problem still persists, remove the grip and slap it a few times (nothing too violent just enough to dislodge any dirt that might be inside)...and try mounting it again, if it still doesn't work it needs to be looked at by a service repair dept...this advice might sound off...I've seen this resolve issues more often than not...it is a practice that isn't performed in front of customers though because they have an 'emotional' attachment to their equipment.
I hope it works out for you, though it does sound like a 'short' somewhere.

I understand. I hate things sitting in the closet that I've paid for and aren't using.
However, in this case, somethings happened. I know nothing technical about battery grips because I don't have or have never used one so I don't understand why a power source should have anything to do with not being able to shoot.
That said, perhaps it's best you don't use it and talk with a local camera shop geek who can probably give you technical data on why the camera acts up with the grip installed.
Good luck
