Is cereal popular in other countries?

It seems like it is mostly marketing that makes cereal popular in the U.S. Does anyone know if it is popular in other countries or even why it became so popular in the U.S. and when?

Yes, in Switzerland, and everywhere in the world where Nestle goes. Everything in the US is advertised. That is why the TV series Bad Men are created. And we cannot even go out of the Coke and Pepsi dilemma until today. Cereal has in the US some historical events. I suggest you to watch the film 'Flake" before you start googling it.

I know for a fact that it is equally popular in Europe.

Hot cereal is popular everywhere, it is one of the first cooked foods that humankind discovered. But of course it is not branded like in the US.
