Do I need to bring my textbooks on the first day of college ?
I will be bringing my laptop and a notebook. In hs it was never necessary to bring textbooks on the first day, but not sure about college. Thanx !

It depends on the professor. I personally would bring my textbooks the first day, unless I got an email from the professor ahead of time that said we don't need them. While some professors might just go over the syllabus and other info and let you go early, many professors will jump right into the first lecture once they finish explaining the syllabus. Actually, the majority of my classes in college I never had to bring my textbook to class - I only needed them for foreign language classes and a couple of others, usually discussion-heavy classes - but I'd rather bring my books and not need them than not bring them and find I should have. I did have 2 or 3 classes in college in which we used the textbook on the first day.
Also, don't take your laptop to the first day of classes. A notebook or binder should be sufficient. (If you choose to use a spiral notebook, make sure to either get one with pockets or bring a folder for handouts.) Professors have different policies when it comes to laptops and some won't let you use them in their class because it can be a distraction.

The first day of class is usually spent in going over the syllabus and discussing what will be covered during the semester. Very seldom are textbooks needed on the first day.

If you have your laptop and a notebook you won't need your textbook. If syllabi or readings are handed out, your professor will probably discuss what he or she expects to be done in the course. Good luck.

depends on the teacher. some will want to refer to the text, some will need you to have it.
