Please help me I may have downloaded a virus?
I got a new computer today and I already think I downloaded a virus. I feel really stupid. I know I'm an idiot. Please help me.
So I downloaded Firefox but I downloaded it from a fake site called www.mozilla-firefox.todownload.com.
What makes matters more confusing, I downloaded it on the start up page of the new Windows 8. I still can't figure out what's going on on that startup page. Anyway, I didn't see it downloading so I hit both the "run" and "download" buttons. I'm not sure if anything actually happened though.
Later I found the the "Desktop" part of Windows and I could actually figure out what I was doing. I downloaded firefox from there and then realized I had done it from the wrong site initially.
Now I'm not sure if I even downloaded anything from that site but a firefox icon does appear on the Windows start up page, is that from downoading when I was on the startup page? It would downloading it in desktop mode make it appear there too?
Anyway, how do I find out if I have a virus and how do I get rid of it. Does anyone know how I get rid of the virus that particular site sends out?
Thanks. I'm very stressed. Crying like a little child. Dark thoughts in my head. Please help.

Anything that is supported and registered as "Trusted" by Microsoft, officially approved (which you should doubble check on their site, and only download from their site instead of outside sources that SAY they are approved), are never going to give you a virus.
If you downloaded something that needs to access sensitive information, like your "Cookies" or something else on your computer (as firefox does), whatever virus scanner you have will freak out a bit, and let you know, something on your computer may be trying to access your information.
If you downloaded it off the Microsoft site (which I assume is this startup page you talk about), then I can guarantee you, that you do not have a virus.
If your concerned, you can always remove the application by 1 of 3 ways:
1. Download a virus scanner, like Norton, or Security Essentials, or some other, scan your computer - if it has any harm to your computer or information, the scanner will detect it, and either quarantine it (so it cant access this stuff anymore as easily), or remove it, based on your call, most scanners automatically do one of the other though.
2. Go to the directory it is installed it (normally the default is within your C drive, in your main Program Files folder, and it should be named the application name (Firefox) or the company name (Mozilla), delete that folder permanently (Shift + Delete once folder is selected), it CANNOT be running on your computer for you to do this. If it tells you some files are in use, go to your Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete), and click on "Processes" and do the same thing - look for the company name and/or the product name, once you find it, end the process, so it isnt being used by your computer. Then try to delete it again.
3. Go to your Control Panel, and "Add/Remove Programs" (depending on the version of windows you have, it may be slightly worded differently), wait for the list to populate - it may take a few minutes.
Once it does, look for the application your trying to delete, 9 times out of 10, its named the product name (in this case, Firefox), otherwise it would just be called the company name (in this case, Mozilla), once you have found it, select it, and click "Uninstall" (again, depending on your version, it may be worded differently)
One of 3 ways are very effective. Hopefully I could help you.

Hi, I think that you should be ok. However if you are at all worried and wish to put your mind at rest? then I am a member of a site which deals (amongst other things) with malware removal. Lots of their members are constantly recommending a free program which they rate the best for malware detection and removal.
I would suggest you download, install and run Malwarebytes from this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwareby...
It is a trusted link so don't worry. Once you have installed it, just set it to do a 'Quick' scan, that's what they recommend most of the time.
Hope this helps?

To see if you have a virus on your computer go to google and type in avast free antivirus. Then download it and scan your computer. Do the full scan which takes longer but looks at the whole computer.
