It depends on your point of view. A woman running the fastest lap was big, true. But Danica was on the track by herself. She's proven over and over again that she can't manage her car in traffic.
When you win the Daytona 500, you are forever known as a Daytona 500 champion. That's Trevor and that's way bigger.

Trevor Bayne's win was somewhat bigger. He smashed Jeff Gordon's record by 5.5 years and he was a Gordon fan. He couldn't even drink an alcoholic beverage in celebration, as he was 20. He was stunned and so were the watchers. He won a race that's a thinker/driver's race. He was in his second Cup race and it was his first Daytona 500. He was a part-time Cup driver and ROOKIE! It was the Wood Brother's first win in 10 years and they hadn't won a 500 in 35 years. As he was a Nationwide driver, it didn't even give him driver points. Danica circled a track by herself, but she's a record as she did somethin' a woman had never done. Maybe I'm biased as I like T-Bayne better than Danica. However, both will be known as a Daytona 500 winner (Bayne) and first woman Daytona 500 pole winner (D. Patrick).

Trevor winning the 500. Danica was on the track by herself for 2 Laps, and Trevor was on the track 100 times longer with 42 other cars. Which one seems like a bigger achievement to you?

Trevor Bayne winning Daytona 500 was one of the biggest upsets in recent Daytona history. He was in the right place at the right time.

Trevor Bayne winning the race. Danica ran a good lap,Trevor ran 500 miles.

Easy. Trevor winning. Trevor was racing for a team with deep racing history that had been struggling for years. And he wasn't even eligible at the time for points in that race. Winning the pole is meaningless, especially at Daytona where the driver has almost nothing to do with it.

Definitely Bayne because winning the race is the whole point. Danica's pole was just odd. I won't say it was fixed by Nascar, but based on everything else she has done it seems extremely out of place. I would say her team was guilty of working way too much towards one goal last winter.

Trevor Bayne winning the 500, of course. Do you really think Danica Patrick could have gotten a pole without NASCAR helping her get it? Please!

Danica Patrick surely deserves a good pole.
