Which of these dog foods is better for the price?

I'm currently feeding my dog Diamond Naturals. It has 4/5 stars online, and my dog seems to do fine on it. Also, I know each dog can have a different reaction to a food. I just wondered if there may be a better food for my budget. (So please, don't come on here and say I should spend $80 on a dog food. And don't tell me I'm a horrible owner because I don't. I know how Yahoo answers users are ;) )

I know you want the primary ingredients to be meats, no by-products and grains aren't really good.

Other brands I've looked into:

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul

Nutro (didnt seem as good, but it was in the price range)

Purina ProPlan

I'm not looking at spending more than maybe $60 on a 30lb bag. Also, if you know another dry dog food that's really good around my price range please let me know. I'm exhausting myself searching the internet for the best dog food in my price range. Thanks ;)

Personally, I feed all of my dogs Nutro. It is all natural with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, no corn, wheat or by-products. It really depends on what else you are looking for in a dog food anything past that.

The Nutro Ultra line is the holistic food that uses holistic ingredients like the blueberries, cranberries, and pomegranates which are great for your dogs immune system. It also has chicken, lamb, and salmon in every bag which makes the food taste great for dogs. The Ultra line usually runs about $55 for a 30 lb bag.

The Nutro Natural Choice line is also great. It is a little simpler for dogs who might have any sensitivities. It has only one meat in it (ie. Chicken, lamb, venison, fish) and then the whole brown rice. It doesn't have a whole bunch of other ingredients and is very good for a dogs skin and coat. The Natural Choice line also has a grain free portion which is great if you are looking specifically for that. The whole brown rice is very easy for dogs to digest and is a very good source of carbohydrates that dogs do need. The Natural Choice line ranges in price from between $50-58 depending on which formula you get.

I also like Nutro because I know that they make all of their own food in Nutro exclusive plants in America and do over 600 quality checks on their products each day. They were also the first company to be inspected and listed as an "Assured and Approved Pet Food Manufacturer."

    I hope that helps you!

A raw food diet is actually cheaper and better for your dog than any can food or dry food you can buy on the market. You can feed the dog Gizzards, Liver, Chicken backs and necks. Beef stew bones are cheap as well. We buy a package of chicken legs for $3.60 and it lasts 2 weeks. 3 huge beef stew bones are 97 cents and last us a week. A big package of gizzards cost $1.60 and last a week. As you can see this should be doable for anyone. Not only cheap but much healthier without all that preservatives, food coloring and in some cases euthanized animals You can feed your dog chicken legs. Many people think chicken bones are bad for a dog but that is only partially true. Cooked chicken bones are bad because the bones become brittle. Raw is fine since the bones are soft and bendy. Do some research on it and you will find this to be true. It makes sense since canines in nature survive purely on a raw meat and bone diet. Domesticated dogs has the exact same digestive system. The difference in DNA is less than 1% of their ancestors. We have had our dachshund on this diet for a long time now and he is doing great. Giving them this diet will give the dog all the nutrients it needs. No need to feed it rice or any grains. Dogs are carnivores and meant to eat meat.

Personally I feed my lab mix puppy Nutro Ultra. Its the holistic formula by Nutro, it contains real chicken as the first ingredient, a blend of super foods to provide natural sources of protein, fat, vitamins/minerals, antioxidants etc.

Hes been on it since I got him and he's been doing really well. It contains no corn, no wheat and no soy protein. Also, its all made in Nutro owned factories in the US, which makes for superior quality control with over 600 quality checks per day.

    Hope that helps :)

Chicken soup, out of the ones you listed. Purina is the worst out of them.

You can add in 1/4 fresh foods (meat, eggs, vegetables) to make it even healthier.

"I know how Yahoo answers users are ;)"

When asked a question like "how is [insert grocery brand food here] food" people who know how to read the labels are brutally honest. If you don't want to hear it, then don't ask. I have never though, read anywhere anyone on yahoo answers call someone a bad owner for feeding a bad kibble.

Add - By my area there is chain of small markets that sells brands like Wellness and Blue for about 15% cheaper than Petco/petsmart. You might want to search for small food markets like that or feed lots for the same brands for less.

Since the pet store near us closed down, I've been using Zero Grain from Rachel Ray.

It gets a solid 4 stars from dogfoodadvisor, hasn't been reviewed by dogfoodscoop.

And it's available at Wal-Mart - the only downside for me is it's not available in a large bag. 14lb bag is around $10 though.

It's been a godsend to find a decent quality food within an hour drive after our local petsmart shut down.

Some people are happy with Diamond, but it has had many recalls. Chicken Soup is a good brand, but if you are happy with Diamond and your dog is doing well, I see no reason to change.

I have to stay with in my means & can't afford those high prices dog foods.

Vet said that Pedigree is a good dog food.

Check the ingredients to see which one you would prefer to feed. Or go to a feed store & ask one of their employes about each brand. feed store, not pet shop.

I use Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. You can get it at petco.com for 54.99 for a 28 lb bag
