Registering a horse? Finding out bloodlines?

I'm considering buying an unregistered rescue STB. I'd love to know more about her bloodlines etc however no one knows much about her. Is there a way for me to do tests to find her bloodlines? What would the cost be? And then would that be all I need to register her? I don't know how this stuff works...

Thanks :)

Update:

She's a rescue from a seizure situation, I don't know anything about her.

Just curious, I don't know if I do, I would for sure like to know her bloodlines though.

Only reason I would is in case I eventually breed her.

Does she have a brand? If so, then you can do a search.

If she does not have a brand you might try contacting http://www.standardbred.org/registration.php

They MAY be able to help with a DNA sample, although that may be expensive.

Do you know the sire and dam of your horse?

The only reason to register her is to race or to breed. Why do you want registration?

If you really want to register her and you don't know the dam and sire, you will most likely need to get a DNA test, and even those can not be true. Also, those can be very expensive, and if the horses parents aren't registered, the horse cannot be registered. I have an unregistered horse, and I think she is wonderful! You can still show unregistered horses, just not In Breed shows. You can still win big, but again just not in breed shows. I hope this helped! (:
