Does taking fish oil pills really help lower cholesterol ?

Heard a lot about this, anybody have any experiences they can share ?

    fish oil raises hdl, doesn't seem to lower ldl

    hdl (high density lipid) is good cholesterol

    ldl (low density lipid) is bad cholesterol
