Proper way to jump highest for vertical(basketball)?
I'm 13, 5'6'', and I don't just really high but my jumping form is really inconsistent. Sometimes I'll just and not even touch the backboard. Sometimes I barely touch it, and sometimes I jump so that I touch maybe an inch or an inch and a half above the backboard bottom. How should I stride, run, and squat down so that I get my max vertical? Btw I am a two footed jumper I am completely weak off one foot.

You need to learn how to train your explosiveness. Not many people know how to do this.

For your concern, I would basically suggest focusing on doing some few vertical exercises so that you could improve your jump. Perhaps you can do squat jumps by holding two dumbbells at your sides and squatting slowly until your knees are flexed but not quite to right angles. Then jump explosively without locking your knees. You can also do running jump. Just stand with one foot somewhat in front of the other. Then take three strides in a quick-quicker-quickest rhythm. On the third stride, explode vertically utilizing your arms for extra power. Practice is the key so repeat these exercises until you nail that higher jump.
Good luck on increasing that two inch jump!

How to Land a Jump from a High Place This move is a good way to avoid hurting your leg muscles when you land from a jump. It's not very hard and doesn't require a lot of practice. [edit] Steps 1. Find a place to jump from. 2. Jump up. 3. While you are in the air, bend your legs. 4. While you are coming down, put your hands forward and above the shoulder of your stronger arm (if you are right handed, above your right shoulder) with your fingers forming a triangle, as if you were catching a football. 5. Land with your toes. 6. Let your weight go forward 7. Bring your triangle-formed fingers downwards to make contact with the ground. 8. Brace your arms to let them take the impact. 9. Push your upper body forward and roll. 10. Jump again from a higher place. [edit] Tips * Move gradually from a small height to higher up. * Practice the rolling motion. * Be ready for the impact with the ground. * Don't get frustrated. * When you roll, roll with your shoulder, not your head. * Remember to never lock your joints. [edit] Warnings * This might cause injury if not done correctly. * Don't use your head when rolling. * You could get seriously injured.
