Setup Internet connection on Windows XP?

I've been trying the past 30 frickin minutes.

I just want to set up this connection on XP to my home network. I am using Buckeye Cable for my ISP and we have an Arris Router.

Are you using Wireless or a direct connection?

Wireless: Make sure you have the proper wireless device's drivers installed first and then usually on the bottom of the router will be a password or key to allow access.

Direct Connection: Make sure your ethernet ports are enabled. You can find out in your "Connections" folder or in your Control Panel.

If internet connection is available, XP will prompt you to get connected. I don't know how you hooked up your system but here are instructions I found on the net:

    1

Unplug the Ethernet cord (connected to your Arris modem) from the back of your computer and unplug the modem from the wall outlet.

    2

Plug the end of the Ethernet cord that was initially connected to the computer into the Ethernet port of the router labeled 'Internet.' You should now have one Ethernet cord running from the back of the Arris modem to the back of your router.

Take a second Ethernet cord and plug one end of the cord into an available port on your router and plug the other end into the back of your computer's Ethernet port.

    4

Power on both the router and the Arris modem by plugging them into your wall outlet.

    5

Click the 'Start' menu in Windows, locate your Control Panel, select 'Network and Sharing' and select 'Set up a new home network.'

    6

Select your router by double clicking it when the network connection wizard finds it.

    7

Create a password for your network to prevent unauthorized use of your account. Create a new name for your home network when prompted.

If this does not work for you, contact your ISP and inform them of the problem. If all is well though. Happy surfing!
