How good is Kenley Jansen going to get?

Converted to a closer a little less than halfway through the season, Jansen has been the Dodgers' most consistent and clutch reliever during the last 1 1/2 seasons. Like Mariano Rivera, Jansen relies almost exclusively on a near unhittable cutter, that despite coming in at only 93 mph, generates an absurd number of swings and misses.

Now, all of that is impressive enough, but what makes his potential sky-high is the fact that Jansen has only been pitching for 4 years now. He was converted from a catcher to a pitcher in 2009 by the Dodgers and was so dominant after just a single season as a pitcher that he was promoted to the club in 2010.

I still remember watching his first MLB appearance against the Mets and being blown away.

I already think Jansen is the #3 best closer in the MLB behind Rivera and Kimbrel. He can't get much better than he is now, but who knows. This is a stretch, but as long as Jansen can stay healthy (and this is unfortunately not a guarantee considering his history), I can easily see him being a top three closer in the game for many, many years to come.

If he gets any better, he'll walk on water, and part the Red Sea.

  • You are already looking at it. AWESOME.

You just can't get better than that.
