kawasaki vulcan valve trouble. Please help?

I have a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 vtwin I got for cheap because the motor was locked. Very clean bike under 10k miles so I took a shot. I pulled the motor out which was a nightmare but was happy to see that the engine is free as new except that the front cylinder valves were starved of oil and seized into the valley's. I know a new loaded head would be the right plan but is it worth my while to clean up the old cams and valleys to reuse? And what could have caused this in the first place besides poor maintenance? Which is very well the case

I commend you for being able to remove the engine.

Removing the carburetors are a nightmare.

A service manual will be worth the money showing how to install the carbs.

Poor maintenance would be the most likely suspect.

    Infrequent oil & filter changes.

Dirty contaminated oil would cause the cams to seize in the head.

If you can buff the cams smooth, they might be reusable.

    I wouldn't take the chance.

Would you like to remove the engine again?

The head is soft aluminum - no chance for repair.

It might be cost effective locating a used head, fully assembled with the cams.

    Google - motorcycle salvage.

    Call around.

Salvage yards are located all over the country and ship anywhere.

A new head complete with cams can cost over $1000
