RAM and Processor help?

I have a laptop: Dell Inspiron 1525

Now my computer is pretty slow. I want to make it faster. I use my laptop for screen recording and video editing, as well as playing flash games.

Here are my specs:

System: 32-bit

RAM: 2 gb

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core

OS: Vista

I want to either improve the RAM or the Processor. But I don't know which, I don't have a lot of money so I can only afford to do one of them.

What do you recommend I upgrade, and what kind/brand would you recommend I get? Needs to be affordable and very efficient for the tasks I do. I was thinking about Core 2 Duo.

You don't need to upgrade your RAM. 2 GB ram is definitely enough to run flash games and do video editing/recording.

but, you actually need a processor. It depends on what you do though. If you use video editing like Sony Vegas or such, you need a good processor.

Atleast, a processor like Celeron G540 2.50 GHz. That's not an expensive processor, and It's a really good processor for your needs, as well as It hovers over Core 2 Duo in performance, and especially gaming.

Also, you need to change your system to Windows 7. Your computer components cannot handle such a heavy OS system such as Vista. Windows 7 will make your computer super fast, as It uses much less RAM. Good luck.

Crucial.com will scan the computer and tell you what generation, amount, speed, and number of sticks of RAM you have AND what amount, speed, and such you need to max out the capabilities of your particular desktop or laptop. It will also tell you what the price is to order that "kit" directly from Crucial.com.

Write that information down and check prices (for comparison purposes, at least - Crucial is a quality product) at your local electronics store - because it will be faster to go over there and get it than to order online and wait for it to be shipped.

RAM is usually fairly simple to install and upgrad on - check Dell.com > Technical Support and click on the link to the manuals for your laptop - if there is a repair manual, check it first. Otherwise, there will probably be instructions on how to get to the RAM and replace it - whether to reseat if if it has jarred loose or gone bad or to upgrade it.

Processors are a little more complicated - you may have to take the computer apart to the bare motherboard to get to where you CAN replace the processor - and it may be soldered in place (in some laptops) which makes it not something to do at home.

Source(s): I've upgraded RAM, put in a larger capacity hard drive with a faster spin speed, and updated the BIOS to speed up a laptop - to upgrade the processor, I went shopping for another laptop of the same make & model with a faster processor on eBay, used. I don't have a soldering gun....

Well you aren't upgrading the processor because 99% of the time, it's soldered onto the motherboard in a laptop. The RAM is possible to upgrade, but it could also be soldered on . Make sure that you check to see if you can remove the memory beforehand. You should be looking for SO-DIMM RAM, because thats what goes in laptops (due to the smaller form factor).

You cannot update a laptop's processor as it is soldered with the motherboard under the keyboard somewhere.

Only thing you can update is your RAM to 4 gb

Also you can switch to SSD or 7200 RPM HDD if you have 5400 RPM HDD installed.

SSDs are really faster and improves overall performance.

Applications load up faster like they were already open, boot time is really short etc.

Don't listen to the other guy.. Your processor is fine but 2 GB of ram isn't good enough. More RAM is what you need. Plus it's the cheapest upgrade out there! Trust me. 2.1 Ghz is good enough. 2 gb of ram isn't good enough
