How can you claim "we don't know?"?

I mean, for you to make the conclusive statement "we do not know if God exists" requires you to know everything right? You would have to have read every book and studied every subject known to man, to its fullest extent, in order to know that we dont know. Otherwise, we dont know if we dont know and cannot rule out the possibility of there being a God.

(even though He is distinctly provable with our modern understanding of natural law.)

Update:

The truth hurts - The statement "we don't know" is a conclusive statement if we have studied everything and still don't know and it wont become inconclusive until more information arises. What is the value of X+Y?

we don't know, not enough data given.

Update 2:

Here is the scientific proof that God exists, to the extent of our knowledge. The educated atheist who i chose as best answer had no choice but to agree until we find out different information.

The mystery's of faith an GOD are beyond human comprehension.

Faith concerns questions which cannot be settled by evidence.

How can the universe create itself out of nothingness? Given the fact that the universe began to exist, it must have had a “cause” that originated it.Doesn't it make more sense to assume the existence of a Creation.

The question is tricky because it sneaks in the false assumption that God came from somewhere and then asks where that might be. The answer is that the question does not even make sense. It is like asking, “What does blue smell like?” Blue is not in the category of things that have a smell, so the question itself is flawed. In the same way, God is not in the category of things that are created or caused. God is uncaused and uncreated—He simply exists.

We know that from nothing, nothing comes. So, if there were ever a time when there was absolutely nothing in existence, then nothing would have ever come into existence. But things do exist. Therefore, since there could never have been absolutely nothing, something had to have always been in existence. That ever-existing thing is what we call God. God is the uncaused Being that caused everything else to come into existence. God is the uncreated Creator who created the universe and everything in it.

You can't see the wind, but you know it is there because you can see what the wind is doing. You can know that the wind is there because you can feel it.God is like the wind, you can't see him.

I read this question and your other that you linked to.

Saying we don't know does NOT mean the individual speaking has all knowledge by reading every book etc. And the universe doesn't have to have always existed. It's an irrelevant point.

You sound like you're so desperate to believe, you latch onto incredibly weak arguments and believe you've made a valid point.

Cosmology is an incredibly young discipline and has come tremendously far in a short amount of time as compared to other disciplines. Zero evidence so far of any intelligence required to control the observed processed.

As to "God being distinctly provable with our modern understanding of natural law," I'll take up that challenge. Show me the proof you're talking about. Because natural law proves no creator is needed. More over no intelligent designer would come up with the nonsense that's out there in some life forms.

"(even though He is distinctly provable with our modern understanding of natural law.)"

Büllshït... if that was the case you wouldn't have to go to the Faith Corner...

    Every time you're cornered ;)

    God is imaginary... absolutely.

Gods and magic are the most ludicrous things ignorant primitives ever came up with to explain anything... he may as well have suggested a one-eyed Turtle with the assistance of half a dozen near-naked flat-chested Flamingos did it... ;)

“If energy can’t be destroyed or created, then god can't create it now can he?

If the universe requires a creator, then so too does god.

    Who created god?

If god could have always existed, then so too could the universe.

Just cos you can't grasp that it doesn’t mean GODDIDIT, it just means you're stupid.”

“If you have "substantial" evidence supporting your god, lay it out - but be aware that the way you feel when you look at puppies or sunsets, or conversations you had with yourself, or your inability to explain something any other way do not constitute evidence.”

    “Understand that:

    Dreams are not evidence.

    Wishful thinking is not evidence.

    Logical fallacies are not evidence.

    Personal revelation is not evidence.

    Illogical conclusions are not evidence.

    Disproved statements are not evidence.

    Unsubstantiated claims are not evidence.

    Hallucinations/delusions are not evidence.

Information that is ambiguous is not evidence.

The Universe doesn't care what you believe in.

Data that requires a certain belief is not evidence.

Information that cannot be verified is not evidence.

Information that cannot be falsified is not evidence.

Experiments with inconclusive results are not evidence.

Information that is only knowable by a privileged few is not evidence.

Experiments that are not and cannot be duplicated by others are not evidence.

The wonderful thing about science is that it doesn't ask for your faith, only your eyes.”

    Is there a god?

    No ;)

"for you to make the conclusive statement "we do not know if God exists" requires you to know everything right?"

No, it just requires us to know roughly what humanity knows. Since nobody has yet come up with any good evidence of God's existence despite millennia of searching, it seems a reasonable statement to make.

    Edit:

Your "proof" is easy to refute. You claim that the existence of the universe violates the first law of thermodynamics (the energy in a closed system is constant / energy cannot be created or destroyed).

The laws of thermodynamics are emergent properties of the universe; they apply within the universe, not to it.

The flow of time is also a property of the universe, therefore the universe was not created, because there was no time-stream in which it could go from non-existence to existence. Fair enough, most people have trouble getting their heads around the concept of no-time, but then again most people have the common sense not to lecture others about physics.

It's a personal statement people make -- THEY don't PERSONALLY know.

I rarely see it as a blanket statement about all humans.

Your statement, though -- that "He is distinctly provable with our modern understanding of natural law" is not only dishonest and fallacious, it's rather silly. Not only that, but you claimed the atheist you picked as best answerer agreed with you, when he *didn't.* You're just being dishonest.

Your claimed "scientific proof" includes at least two straw-man fallacies, at least three bare assertion fallacies, and a fallacious argument from ignorance/incredulity. Please stop pretending fallacies are "scientific proof." They're not, they're worthless.

''"we do not know if God exists" requires you to know everything right?''

no... its like in computer processing, you check your memory for a particular encoded information, if it isnt there, it is not known

I dont think you clearly understand what knowledge is

''(even though He is distinctly provable with our modern understanding of natural law.)''

    please demonstrate

LOL you arent proving anything, you are just showing a problem and using wishful thinking to justify your god, you dont know about pre-bigbang physics, actually nobody knows because the question doesnt even make sense, some hypothesis predict a multi-verse, other an infinite universe of big crunche and big bang.

I have been pointing this out in MANY of the questions I have answered. The view is "I don't know about something, therefore that something (what ever it is) does not exist."

As foolish as a little child trying to learn addition and subtraction, claiming that calculus doesn't exist because he doesn't understand.

I don't know Mr. T.C. MITS, therefore he doesn't exist.

Arguments from a lack of information is no argument - well, it's a fool's argument, but they simply don't have the mental capacity to understand that "lack of evidence does NOT constitute evidence of lack!"

They ultimately are claiming to know absolutely everything there is to know in the entire universe, and anything they do NOT know about can not exist; that the universe is obligated to bow down to their limited knowledge set and experience levels.

But, in the words of Shakespeare, I tell them, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

In other words, "Me thinks they protest too much."

Your question does not make sense. You must prove something if you claim it to exist. To just say prove it does not exist can be said about anything including the infamous spaghetti monster.

EDIT: you assume that we have the capacity to understand everything. You need to sit back and look at your question again.

We know there aren't any gods because mankind created them all.

Atheists understand that "if God doesn't exist it is not God who has lied it is the person that made up God that has lied."

The concept that God is made up is impossible for Christians to understand because of circular logic: "God says He exists and God wouldn't lie."

That is the power Christianity has over its believers and one that no atheist will ever be able to undo. The only way a believer will be set free is if she comes to see the truth for herself!

Maybe someone should have asked Kim Peek if he knew if God exists or not. Then we could have accurately ascertained whether we know we don't know God exists.
