Anyone want to help me with this scene in my book? Getting stuck?
i need to find a way for a character to explain to my MC that he's a shape-shifter, and that he was the cat that was following her around earlier. This is right where the story will start transitioning into magic/supernatural stuff. so obviously she isn't going to believe him at first. I want her to say "that's impossible" and for him to respond with some kind of "you wouldn't believe how many things you think are impossible that are actually real" or something like that. but i'm not sure how he can phrase "yeah i'm totally a cat-person" without it sounding ridiculous.
they're having a conversation at a diner in the middle of the night. here's what i have so far.
“So,” the boy leaned across the table, “have you decided to listen to me yet?”
Lilly sat up straighter in her seat. “I guess I really have no other option at this point.” she replied. “Could you start by telling me who you are, and why you’ve been following me?”
“Come on,” he chuckled “Don’t you recognize me?” He brushed his hair away from his face and stared Lilly in the eye. His piercing green eyes bored into hers. Lilly leaned closer to him, confused. “I’ll give you a hint.” He said. “Meow”
(please forgive the horrible editing, i'm in free write mode, on my first draft)

make it a serious moment put the mc in danger and have the cat person transform in front of him to save him
