It is not illegal to hit a teenager. There are no laws saying "you must not hit a teenager no matter what."

It is not illegal to hit ANYONE of ANY AGE who is attacking someone. It doesn't even have to be your child, it could be a stranger. And you can even use deadly force if that's what it takes to stop the threat.

There is no law that says you have to stand by and watch someone be beaten to death, or anywhere near it.

Yes. You can legally defend anybody who is being attacked with appropriate force. The only exception is if the police are doing the attacking. For some reason they are allowed to beat the shiite out of people with impunity.

Yes you can help your teenager but you must first intervene to try and help them escape by some means, such as pulling them away or putting yourself between your teen and the attackers. If they hit you and if necessary to help yourself escape, then you can hit back just as hard as necessary to make it possible for you to escape. Even in "stand your ground" states, it's wiser to try and get away if you possibly can.

You should not hit anyone who is beating on your kid unless they attack you and you have to hit back to get away. But it wouldn't be illegal for you to defend yourself and defend your teen.

Short answer, yes, you can help. BUT, help by putting your body between them and your child. If they hit you, then you can respond. If you charge in with fists swinging, it is assault, and misdemeanor or felony depending on severity of injuries.

Of course you may employ deadly force in the event of an immediate threat of death or grave bodily harm to innocents (and if your kid started it, there may be no innocents to protect), but that sort of in extrema gravis is rare.

Of course he can help--if fact, a parent has a duty to protect his child.
