Hockey shot question?
I want to keep this pretty short. I'm a street hockey player (beginner - intermediate level) and I noticed that my slap shots are pretty much 4 times as accurate as my wrist shots from long distance. Should I capitalize on having a good slap shot or what? I'm a small dude and I'm fast with my slap shots, so that's one factor. Another thing I might add is that some guys that I play with make it seem as if taking a slap shot is unnecessary, is that a universal idea? haha. Thanks in advance, I'm just really curious about the sport outside of my group.

Great player for you to watch would be Cody Franson. He has an extremely quick slapshot that he uses basically all the time. It's more accurate than his wrister, it's faster and it always creates chances in front of the net, when the goalie saves it and a rebound comes out. He doesn't do a full wind-up like Chara, for example, would. Instead, he does kind of a half wind-up and quickly gets the shot off. So what I'm trying to say is, yes if your slapshot is quick, and effective then use it when you can. Especially if you are a defenseman.

Hi i would say and this is personal beliefs not the classic or typical teachings but i would say don't rely on your clapper work on you ris because wristers are much faster to get of and not as easy to know you are taking them you need to be able to have a quick realese and accurate shot more than a fast shot though that will help. So work on your wrister but also use your clapper when you have an opportunity. I also have a fast an accurate slap shot but i don't use it often because i don't have the time or space to take one but a wrist shot is easy to get off with out much time or space

In my experience playing street hockey, it was relatively fast paced so it was hard to get a decent slapshot off. That being said, if you can pull it off and it works for you then go for it.
