Can I keep my horse show ribbon?
I'm going to a small horse show at our barn. I'm going to be riding my own horse, who is a bit green, but quite game! I also asked a friend of mine to ride my horse in the How High Can You Jump as she can go 4' at least, but I'm too nervous to take her that big.
My question is would it be ok to ask for the ribbon if she wins any? It's only going to 3rd place for that class. I know the rider usually keeps the ribbon, but since I asked her to ride, would that be ok? What do you think? It'd be such a proud moment if my baby actually places in this class! :D

You shouldn't ask for the ribbon because that will put her in an awkward position. You could say something like "if you don't really care about the ribbon, I'll take it" or something that makes it seem like it's okay if she wants it, but if not, you'd be happy to have it.
On the day of the show, be sure to take lots of pictures of her jumping, and posing with the ribbon (if any) afterwards. You can keep the pictures for your horse's scrapbook.

No way you asked her to ride so why would you think you could ask for the ribbon she is doing you a favor. it may be a proud moment but even if you kept it and then you told people how would oh my friend rode my horse and won 3rd well that doesn't sound great but if you said oh i took my horse and won 3rd people would be like cool good job so man up and you don't even need to do any impressive classes the experience of show atmosphere should be enough of an award.

It really would not be proper to ask your friend for her ribbon, say she did win. Awards in this case are an accomplishment of both the horse and rider as a team.
Think of it like this: I am going to be riding my instructor's schoolhorse in a horse show she's holding at our barn. I placed, and as well as the other riders who had earned ribbons in the class. Who would get the ribbon, then? The rider, or my instructor? I would, of course.
If she wins, she gets to keep the ribbon, unless she herself OFFERS to let you keep it- just not out of shame or guilt. It's her and the horse's accomplishment, not yours, in that case.
If you really want the ribbon? Practice, and enter the class yourself, instead of having your friend ride your horse in it!

It is not proper etiquette to ask for any ribbon that she wins. It actually may tarnish your image with your fellow equestrians.
You have asked her to ride and she will have earned any ribbon she gets in partner with your horse.
I know that you will be proud of any accomplishment that your horse does.
If she does win any ribbons, take a nice picture of your horse, her and the ribbons.
You can be happy for your friend and at the same time be proud of your horse.
In time your nerves will settle and you will be bringing home your own ribbons with your horse in "how High Can You Jump".
"It's only third place." My first show earned me a 5th place ribbon and I was happy and excited with that!

She should get the ribbon. It would be tacky (low-class) for you to try to keep it. I liked the idea another answerer had, of taking a really good picture that you can keep, of her and your horse with a ribbon. You'll win plenty of ribbons in the future so there's no need to be greedy about your friend's ribbon.

I think if you let her ride you should let her keep the ribbon. The ribbon shows an accomplishment of the rider. It wouldn't be fair to have her enter the competition and you take credit for it.

No, you should really let the rider keep it. Maybe take a picture of your horse with the ribbon on its bridle that way you can have that.

I wouldn't I mean like she may be hurt or upset if say that was the best she did or if she can't keep her award. For instance it's some what similar to you winning $100 and then someone taking it away from you in an instant.

The rider has earned it so it would not be fair to take it from her. I doubt you would be happy if you rode her horse and she decided to take the rosette from you.
Take a picture if you want instead, but remember to give credit where it's due.

If the ribbon is normally given to the rider, then you should not ask for it.
