  • Owner of my leased horse is leaving barn...I want to follow her but?

I have been at my current barn for 9 years, had and sold my horse, and now currently leasing a wonderful horse. However the owner doesn't agree with the BO about various things and has decided to move the horse. If I stayed, there are no horses to lease (not enough for extra rides) so I'm thinking of going with her. I'm extremely loyal, so no idea how to break it to my BO...

  • Introducing a new puppy to shy dog?

My current dog is very shy with dogs and people outside of the house. Once she gets to know a person inside the home though, she is the friendliest thing on the planet. We're getting a new puppy in the fall! How do we go about introducing it to her so she has good feelings about it? I don't want her to be scared of the tiny ball of fluff lol

  • Horse is constantly sore, advice?

I have a lovely mare who unfortunately has hock arthritis. Luckily at the moment this is very much under control but we recently discovered that her muscles are quite sore a lot. Now that we know this, it makes sense why she can be so reactive and hot at times. She has also probably been like that for years. Poor girl.

I have been looking for a new home for her as I would like to continue jumping etc (and she can't do that). My problem is that she is not beginner or trail safe. She likes playing games like walking over tarps (or having them on her lol) and a lot of "despooking" stuff (which she isn't scared of at all).

I guess my question is I know there are not many homes for a horse like her. We've never really figured out why she's been sore all this time. The vet thinks it's all my riding but I got her like this and she has greatly improved since I bought her. I had thought about possibly putting her down so she doesn't end up in a bad place (I got her from one) but again it seems a shame to put down a relatively healthy mare.

Is it possible she has a chronic disease of some sort that affects her muscles?

    Opinions?

  • Braiding help! I have trouble braiding manes right to the end of the braid. I always seem to drop it?

or leave at least an inch or so at the end. Which doesn't help at all when I am ready to do them up as I always get too much hair sticking out. Any advice? Thanks!

  • Are Justin Hartley (Smallville) and Justin Tarr (Rat Patrol) related?

I have noticed that Smallville's Oliver Queen is the spitting image of Tully Pettigrew in The Rat Patrol! Is it possible that they are related or just a really cool coincidence?

  • Need a show name!?

Hi we are expecting a foal in a few weeks! Hoping it's a filly... :)

Anyway, looking for a good name for the little one! We like "Lily" for a filly, but a show name? Hm.

Any help would be awesome for a filly or colt name!! Mom is Grand Impression, sire is War Drive. We would be adding our barn name in front of whatever we pick, so like (name)'s War Drive.

  • Can you help me with my story?

    Hi,

I'm writing a story, but there's this one character that I need help with. He's had his throat damaged (someone tried to silence him by slashing it, but he survived). Now he's healthy again, but he talks funny because of the damage. My question is how would he sound? Would he be really raspy, or wheezy or what?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Can I keep my horse show ribbon?

I'm going to a small horse show at our barn. I'm going to be riding my own horse, who is a bit green, but quite game! I also asked a friend of mine to ride my horse in the How High Can You Jump as she can go 4' at least, but I'm too nervous to take her that big.

My question is would it be ok to ask for the ribbon if she wins any? It's only going to 3rd place for that class. I know the rider usually keeps the ribbon, but since I asked her to ride, would that be ok? What do you think? It'd be such a proud moment if my baby actually places in this class! :D

  • Why do they usually show old time sailing ships crowding sail?

I have noticed that a lot of artists depictions show the ships with every sail out. I know generally this never happened unless they didn't have enough wind and was trying to catch as much as possible, or in emergency situations. Otherwise they would have a big problem with the masts breaking down or capsizing the ship. Having all sails out was called crowding sail, for obvious reasons!

Smaller ships like schooners DID often have most of their sails employed, but a ship of the line wouldn't.

Perhaps the artists think the ships look prettier and more impressive this way?

  • How to smoothly slow a galloping horse?

My mare is a TBxQH, so as you can imagine, she has a lot of speed for a gallop! She's built more like the TB, so imagine tears streaming down and wind howling! lol

My problem is she slows like the QH, with a prop, and a little slide, and more props, and I've nearly come off! How do I get her to come back to slowly come back without the propping?

It was really funny the last time we galloped...the coach said to us "Let's race!" And we're like, "Ummm what happens if we can't stop them?" She said, Don't worry, when they see my horse stop, they will too!" Yeah, they stopped, my ***. hahaha

  • Spanking your kid question?

I've heard that it's better when the child is being spanked to have them spread their legs open. Why is this? Have you done this?

I believe in spanking...I was spanked as a kid. And I appreciate it.

  • Ok weird question but...?

I know how to get myself excited but thought it would be interesting to experiment. Is there something that might make my "down there" burn slightly? Not looking to go crazy here, but just interested.

  • Which is easier to take care of, a cockatiel or a lizard?

I would like a new pet, but not sure which might be easier. I have a 10 gallon tank for fish that I could convert to a lizard tank, or I could get a cockatiel or lovebird, as I love them! Just would like something that is friendly and I could hold.

    Pros and cons of each?

  • Horse recovering from abuse?

Hi just wanted to share about my horse that I bought! She was sold to me on the premise that she was a wonderfully trained horse (I know ha ha), but I loved how she tried so hard and she was the nicest horse I tried, even if she was on the thin side. When we got her home, things started cropping up, and by her reaction, she was definitely abused. We did get an inkling of it as when it was time to take her home, the previous owner literally beat her on the trailer because she wouldn't load.

So here is what my horse used to do:

    -didn’t like being groomed

    -would kick when being saddled

    -wouldn’t pick up feet

    -wouldn’t load on a trailer

-would do rollkur without being asked

    -otherwise extremely fussy with bit

-didn’t know how to jump well

    -would jump poles

-panicked on hacks, even with other horses leading

    -wouldn’t relax during in-stable shows

    -would buck when scared

    -would also bolt if scared

This is what she now does after 2.5 years:

-Fine being groomed. Doesn’t like curry comb.

-Only pins ears sometimes with girth. Perfectly behaved otherwise.

    -Foot manners are perfect.

-No longer rollkurs. Sometimes gets behind bit by accident.

-Rides mostly in bitless bridle, but can be ridden with bit.

-Jumps beautifully! Still a bit green, but has gone 4’ yay!

    -Only jumps pole if long.

-Now hacks out, happily, in group or by herself. Even will gallop and pull up nicely!

-Haven’t tried the shows yet, but have feeling this is going to be better.

-Has not bucked in a very long time under saddle.

-Bolted in the spring, but has not since. Only spooks occasionally but collects self.

I was going to sell her because she was getting beyond me, and it was such a long hard road. But I think I might keep her after all! :D

What do you guys think? Do you have good stories similar to mine?
