Toshiba Laptop won't connect to the Internet?

I have a toshiba laptop that runs on Windows XP. It won't connect to the Internet. I keep putting in the network key and All I get is it saying "waiting for network to be ready" and then it resets the network key. I'm not sure why it's not working. And I went to the network properties and changed the network key and that didnt work either. What do I do to make it connec to the Internet???

Test the computer on a network that has no password to see if you can get in. Like in starbucks or your library.

If that works, then you may have the connection set up wrong. (i.e. WPA, WEP, 16 bit key vs 32 bit key)

I have a Vista machine that won't connect to my 4G MiFi. I think that XP is so old it can't connect to something new. I bought a Belkin WiFi usb plugin for it. The Belkin even needs special drivers to run on XP. Your system is just too old.
