and there may be many reliable researchers (me among them) who could help...but you assume everyone can afford ancestry.com. I cant see your tree.

POST A QUESTION ABOUT A SPECIFIC PROBLEM.. Every person is unique.. so what works for grandpa, won't work for grandma.

FamilySearch.org has free records for both Canada, Poland and Russia as well as a few for other countries in the former USSR. I would start there. Ask living family members if they know where in Russia or Poland your grandparents were born. A town or village will make your search much easier. FamilySearch also has some immigration and naturalization records and they are adding more all the time. You might also want to go to the nearest Family History Center for more help and ideas.
