Why so few donut holes?

There are ton's of donuts at the bakery but not that many donut holes. What do they do with all the rest of the donut holes :)

    Most donuts are formed by a machine that drops the "ring" of dough into the oil, like they do at Krispy Kreme. Only the donuts that are cut from a sheet of dough produce the holes.

    Most places sell the holes by the bag so maybe you don't see many because other people already bought most of them.
